And there was land
We acquired our place about three years ago now. The yard as you can see was bare, which was actually a major attraction. A lot of land in our area has major trees, which can obstruct ones gardening plans. The view is to the west northwest, so the yard gets a good deal of sun. It was just a matter of getting rid of some of the grass.
Small-scale farming is something I grew up with. My family raised chickens, turkeys, guinea fowl, and quail for eggs and meat. As well as intermittent gardens. My maternal grandfather had an immaculate garden and raised cows for milk. His garden was to feed the family, not just for beauty; though by all accounts he did it beautifully. That then is my goal(to borrow from the Lowell strikers): bread and roses.
